Health & physical education

Ten years in the classroom teaching Health and Physical Education. Teaching is where the skill of translating something complex into something a person can actually act on took shape, along with holding a room of very different people moving toward the same goal.

The daily practice

A classroom is a room full of people with different starting points, different motivations, and different reasons to tune out. Your job is to move all of them toward the same objective anyway. For ten years that was the work: take a concept that's genuinely complex, make it clear and actionable, and meet each student where they actually are rather than where the curriculum assumes they are.

Why it maps to product

Product ownership lives or dies on the same skill. Translating between executives, engineers, and business stakeholders (three groups that don't share vocabulary) works the same way as translating health science for a fifteen-year-old. And the instinct to meet people where they are, not where you wish they were, is exactly the design principle behind the behavioral work in Arc Katalyst.

The throughline

Teaching, coaching, command, product: they're all the same job on a different surface: understand where people are, make the path forward clear, and own whether they get there.
